Your Right to Be Rich: Wattles’ Wisdom and Hill’s 6 Steps to Wealth
Aug 19, 2025“Man's right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted use of all the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual, and physical unfoldment; or, in other words, his right to be rich.” – Wallace Wattles “The Science of Getting Rich” page 5.
What if being rich isn’t just a desire, but a birthright? Wallace Wattles, in The Science of Getting Rich, reframes wealth as essential to living fully. Riches are not merely material but mental, spiritual, and physical. When you embrace this truth, Napoleon Hill’s six-step plan in Think and Grow Rich becomes more than a strategy, it becomes a pathway to fulfilling life’s highest potential.
Understanding Wattles’ Philosophy
Wattles argues that to live fully, we need access to resources, tools, money, time, and experiences. Denying yourself wealth means denying yourself the chance to grow, create, and contribute at your highest level. To be rich is not about greed; it’s about unfolding into the best version of yourself.
This perspective removes guilt or hesitation around pursuing wealth. Instead, it clarifies wealth as a spiritual and practical duty. That clarity is exactly what Hill’s six-step method requires.
Napoleon Hill’s 6 Steps (from Think and Grow Rich, Chapter 2)
Step 1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire: Vague goals bring vague results. Clarity creates focus and activates your subconscious to pursue opportunities.
Step 2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire: Nothing comes without exchange; decide what value, service, or effort you will contribute.
Step 3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire: A deadline transforms a wish into a goal. Timeframes add urgency and discipline.
Step 4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not: Action outweighs perfection. Start now, adjust along the way.
Step 5. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you desire, the time limit, what you intend to give in return, and the plan to accumulate it: Putting it in writing locks it into your conscious and subconscious mind.
Step 6. Read your written statement aloud twice daily, once in the morning and once at night: As you read, see, feel, and believe yourself already in possession of the money.
Repetition and visualization train your mind to act as though success is already secured.
Connecting Wattles and Hill
Wattles gives you the why: wealth is your right and necessary for a full life.
Hill gives you the how: a step-by-step method to crystallize desire into action.
Together, they form a complete wealth philosophy: you have the right to riches, and you have a proven path to claim them.
