Why You Must Become the Person Who Attracts Your Goal
Feb 07, 2026What if the reason your goals keep circling your life, but never quite landing, is because you’re trying to get something you haven’t yet become?
Most people chase outcomes. Very few realize outcomes are attracted to identity. This is the deeper truth behind Point 4 from Chapter 6 – The Law of Vibration and Attraction in You Were Born Rich by Bob Proctor.
You Must Become a Match for What You Desire
Bob Proctor delivers one of the most confronting, and freeing, ideas in the entire book: You do not attract what you want. You attract what you are.
Abundance, success, opportunity, and growth are not rewards handed out randomly. They are responses to who you are being on the inside. This is why: Some people seem to attract opportunities effortlessly, and others work harder and harder with little to show for it. Temporary wins disappear as quickly as they arrive. If your internal identity doesn’t match the outcome, the outcome won’t stay.
Becoming a match means thinking the thoughts that person thinks, feeling the emotions that person feels, expecting the results that person expects, and acting naturally from that internal state. Not pretending. Not forcing. Becoming.
Proctor teaches that when your self-image shifts, your vibration shifts and attraction has no choice but to follow.
How This Relates Directly to Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill taught the same principle, clearly and repeatedly, in Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Hill emphasized: Definiteness of Purpose → deciding who you are becoming. Faith → emotionally accepting that identity. Autosuggestion → repeatedly impressing that identity on the subconscious.
Hill was clear: The subconscious mind acts on what it believes you are, not what you wish to be.
Here’s the alignment: Proctor explains identity as vibration. Hill explains identity as subconscious conditioning. Different language. Same law. When identity changes, results reorganize automatically. That’s why Hill insisted your Definite Chief Aim must be written in the present tense. You are not waiting to become, you are claiming the identity now.
Why This Is the Step Most People Skip
Because becoming feels risky. It means letting go of old labels, releasing familiar limitations, and acting as if growth is normal. Many people wait for proof before they allow themselves to change internally.
But both Hill and Proctor agree: The inner shift comes first. The evidence follows. Trying to “earn” a new identity through results is backwards.
Would Studying With a Group Be Helpful?
Absolutely, because identity forms in environment
- A Group Normalizes the New Identity: When everyone around you is studying growth, expansion feels natural, not arrogant or unrealistic.
- A Group Reflects Who You’re Becoming: Others often see your potential before you do. Group discussion helps you step into identity faster and with less resistance.
- A Group Reinforces Belief Through Repetition: Hill taught that repetition installs belief. Studying together keeps the new identity top of mind until it feels familiar.
- A Group Prevents Regression: Left alone, old conditioning pulls you back. A study group acts as a stabilizer while your self-image recalibrates.
Action Steps: Become a Match for What You Desire
- Action 1: Define the Identity Required: Write a short statement answering: “Who must I become to naturally attract this result?” Focus on identity, not outcomes (how you think, decide, and respond).
- Action 2: Observe Daily Behavior for Alignment: At the end of each day, ask: “Did my actions today match the person I say I am becoming?” No judgment, just awareness.
- Action 3: Practice ‘As If’ Thinking: Before decisions, pause and ask: “How would the version of me who already has this result think or act here?” Then act from that perspective.
- Action 4: Upgrade One Small Habit: Choose one daily habit that aligns with the new identity (e.g., how you speak about money, how you plan your day, how you follow through). Consistency > intensity.
- Action 5: Monitor Emotional Set Point: Notice your dominant emotional state: Calm? Confident? Expectant? If emotion drops, reset with gratitude or intention don’t force positivity.
- Action 6: Use Present-Tense Language: Speak and write from identity: “I am becoming…” “This is normal for me now…” “I expect opportunities…” Language reinforces vibration.
- Action 7: Reduce Exposure to Contradictory Inputs: Limit time with scarcity-based conversations, negative media, or cynical commentary. Environment shapes identity faster than willpower.
- Action 8: Review Weekly: Once per week, reflect: “Where did I act in alignment?” “Where did I default to my old self?” Adjust, don’t criticize.
