Understanding Auto-Suggestion is the key to making the whole philosophy work.

"think and grow rich" chapter 4 May 28, 2025

“Go back to these six steps described in chapter two, and read them again, very carefully, before you proceed further. Then (when you come to it), read very carefully the four instructions for the organization of your ‘Master Mind’ group, described in the chapter on Organized Planning. By comparing these two sets of instructions with that which has been stated on autosuggestion, you, of course, will see that the instructions involve the application of the principle of autosuggestion.” Page 59 “Think and Grow Rich.”

The 6 steps in Chapter 2, and the Master Mind principles in the planning chapter, are not separate from the principle of auto-suggestion. They are actually methods of using auto-suggestion in practical form. Hill is asking us to look again, not just to memorize the steps, but to understand that each one is a technique for implanting thoughts into your subconscious mind deliberately.

Let’s look at how each step is actually a form of auto-suggestion in action, just like Hill is asking us to recognize.

Step 1: Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire.

This is the start of the mental conditioning process. A vague goal cannot activate the subconscious. A specific, focused desire is repeated and visualized, feeding the subconscious a clear target.

Step 2: Determine what you will give in return.

You are telling your subconscious that you are willing to pay a price. This solidifies belief and commitment. You are implanting a mental image of yourself as a person who earns the money, not just wants it.

Step 3: Establish a definite date.

Setting a timeline adds pressure and urgency to your mental picture, which increases emotional involvement. The subconscious responds to specificity and emotion;nboth are key to auto-suggestion.

Step 4: Create a definite plan and begin at once.

Taking immediate action reinforces belief. You’re suggesting to your subconscious that you are serious and committed. It also creates feedback loops. Your actions echo and strengthen the idea implanted in your mind.

Step 5: Write a clear, concise statement.

Writing focuses thought. This statement becomes the mantra or affirmation that you use to reprogram your subconscious through repetition.

Step 6: Read your statement aloud twice daily with emotion and belief.

This is the core practice of auto-suggestion. Spoken repetition, powered by emotion and faith, which creates new beliefs in the subconscious.

Hill is urging you to connect the dots. The 6 steps are not just tasks; they are systems of deliberate thought control. Auto-suggestion is the underlying engine powering those steps. When used properly, they train your subconscious to align your beliefs, feelings, and actions with your goal.

The 6 steps ARE auto-suggestion in practice. Understanding that is the key to making the whole philosophy work.
