Step 1: How to Set a Clear Financial Goal That Activates Your Mind for Success
May 14, 2025We want to create habits that support our work on the 6-steps from chapter 2 of "Think and Grow Rich." Each day I will drive deeper into each step, one step each day over the next week.
I would strongly advise you to follow Step 1 from Chapter 2 of Think and Grow Rich:
"Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire."
Fixing a specific financial goal isn’t just a wishful step; it’s the foundation of turning desire into reality. Why does it matter?
1. Clarity is Power – Without a specific target, your energy and decisions will lack focus. A vague goal leads to vague results.
2. Mental Magnetism – The subconscious mind responds best to precision. Defining an exact amount helps activate the law of attraction and autosuggestion more effectively.
3. Measure of Progress – You can’t improve what you don’t define. A fixed number lets you track, adjust, and celebrate progress.
4. Emotional Engagement – A specific goal ignites emotion, and emotion is the fuel behind faith, persistence, and action.
Practical steps to achieve this:
1. Start with Desire, Not Logic
Ask: “What amount of money would radically change my life right now?”
It should be exciting, even a bit intimidating—but believable to you.
Example: “I want to earn $10,000/month in passive income” or “I will have $100,000 saved/invested by [date].”
2. Anchor it to a Purpose
Money without meaning won’t motivate you.
Attach the amount to something that drives you: freedom, legacy, debt-free living, lifestyle upgrade, or a business goal.
3. Consider Time
Add a clear deadline: “by December 31, 2025” or “within the next 12 months.”
This forces urgency and planning.
4. Make it Real with Simple Math
Break the amount down into smaller targets (monthly, weekly, or per client).
For example, if you want $120,000/year = $10,000/month = 5 clients at $2,000/month.
5. Check Believability
Your number should stretch you, not paralyze you.
If it feels impossible, reduce it slightly; if it feels boring, raise it.
Confidence fuels action.
